Sheets, screws, tape, and joint compound needed.
Use 4×12 sheets whenever possible — fewer seams mean less taping and finishing work. On ceilings, hang sheets perpendicular to joists. On walls, hang horizontally to minimize long vertical seams.
Joint compound is typically sold in 4.5-gallon (approximately 50 lb) buckets. Pre-mixed compound is easier to work with but takes longer to dry. Setting-type compound (powder) is faster but less forgiving for beginners.
